Marlon Brando refused to accept the prestigious Oscar award to show his support for Native Americans and to protest the injustices they have faced from successive waves of immigrants. He objected to the way Hollywood portrayed Native Americans in films.

To represent him at the Oscar ceremony, Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather attended in his place. Brando was not only a great actor but also a dedicated activist and a compassionate human being.
